Venezuela’s acting President Delcy Rodríguez used her first state of the union message Jan. 15 to advocate for opening the crucial state-run oil industry to more foreign investment.

Transportation companies such as C.H. Robinson and XPO have already added services and warehouse space to support customers in Mexico that are shipping or are planning to ship to the U.S.

Under the terms, which the White House was poised to announce Jan. 15, duties on Taiwanese shipments would fall from the previous 20% rate — putting them on par with Japan and South Korea.

“We built our entire vehicle business as an industry between Canada, Mexico and the U.S.,” Ford CEO Jim Farley said Jan. 15 in a Bloomberg TV interview. “We have to get this revised.”

The transportation sector experienced a slowdown in merger and acquisition activity in 2025 amid ongoing headwinds and market uncertainty, according to a report by Tenney Group.

Under an order Trump signed on Jan. 14, the government would collect the duty on the chips as they’re brought to the U.S. before final shipment to Chinese customers and other foreign markets.

President Trump has been under pressure to respond after China constrained access to rare earths crucial to advanced technologies during a trade spat last year.

It’s unclear which U.S. officials will participate in the meetings and whether Trump plans to become personally involved. Whether a deal will be finalized also remains uncertain. 

The court hasn’t said when it will issue its next opinions but could schedule more decisions Jan. 20-21, when the justices again are in session.
