The blaze is the latest incident at the facility that produces aluminum sheet metal for Ford vehicles including its top-selling F-150 pickup. A fire in September shuttered production.

The last unit, a white five-door hatchback, rolled off the line at the Saarlouis plant in Germany this month, marking the end of a car that sold more than 12 million units worldwide, Ford said.

Ford is considering scrapping the electric version of its F-150 pickup truck, known as the F-150 Lightning, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing people familiar with the matter. 

The engines will not be exported to the U.S., but it’s unclear which countries they will be sent to, a source told Bloomberg. An announcement is expected as early as this week.

An idea floated by Japan’s government to buy a fleet of Ford F-150 trucks is a meaningful gesture that may also be impractical given the narrow streets in Tokyo and other Japanese cities.
