The national average price of diesel fell by six-tenths of a cent to $2.435 a gallon, according to the Energy Information Administration. The weekly report was released Sept. 8, a day later than usual because of the Labor Day holiday.

The price of diesel jumped by 1.5 cents nationwide to $2.441 a gallon, the Energy Information Administration reported Aug. 31, as much of the nation’s oil exploration and refining capacity was shut down because of two severe-weather events.

For the second week in a row, the price of diesel remained essentially flat compared with the prior week, dipping just one-tenth of a cent to $2.426 a gallon, the Energy Information Administration reported Aug. 24.

A program meant to improve air quality by reducing diesel emissions was included in the annual defense authorization bill the Senate passed July 23.

After six consecutive weeks of increases, the national retail price of diesel fuel fell by five-tenths of a cent to $2.433 a gallon from $2.438 the previous week.

The nationwide average price of diesel fuel was nearly flat the past week, according to U.S. Energy Information Administration data released July 13.
