The world’s appetite for U.S. diesel is falling, leaving stockpiles of the fuel at their highest level since early October.

The first full week of 2021 saw the nationwide price of diesel continue to rise, as it had for the last weeks of 2020. Trucking’s main fuel notched a 3-cent increase, according to the Energy Information Administration’s weekly data released Jan. 11.

The last days of 2020 and the first few of 2021 continued the same trend, with diesel prices rising nationwide.

The U.S. average retail price of diesel rose 1.6 cents to $2.635 a gallon and notched a new nine-month high after first reaching that peak a week earlier, the Energy Information Administration reported Dec. 28. The average price of diesel was $2.659 on March 23.

The U.S. average retail price of diesel rose 6 cents to $2.619 a gallon and notched the highest price in nine months, the Energy Information Administration reported Dec. 21.

The European Union’s top court ruled that Volkswagen breached the law by installing on its cars a so-called defeat device to cheat on emission tests and cannot argue it was merely protecting car engines.

The average price of diesel increased by 3.3 cents a gallon nationwide to $2.559, according to weekly data released by the U.S. Energy Information Administration on Dec. 14. Still, trucking’s primary fuel costs 48.7 cents less than it did a year ago.

The U.S. Energy Information Administration’s weekly survey published Dec. 7 showed trucking’s primary fuel increased 2.4 cents nationwide and now costs $2.526 a gallon.

The U.S. Energy Information Administration reported Nov. 30 in its weekly survey that trucking’s main fuel increased 4 cents nationwide.

The nationwide average price of diesel fuel increased 2.1 cents per gallon, according to U.S. Energy Information Administration.
