Smart trailer technology is evolving to cater to a trucking fleet’s needs and can dramatically improve all aspects of its operations, a panel said during Hendrickson's media day event.

Tesla was allowed to begin offering autonomous rideshare service in Arizona, clearing the way for its nascent robotaxi business to expand to a new state.

Beginning Nov. 12, the Alphabet unit will begin offering some riders routes that include freeways in San Francisco, Phoenix and Los Angeles, Waymo said in a statement.

NHTSA disclosed in September that it’s investigating whether some Tesla doors are defective, citing incidents in which exterior handles stopped working and trapped  occupants inside.

“We hear so many things about the space of AI and what it can do. But what are the practical implications for us?" says newly installed ATA Chairman Greg Hodgen.

The autonomous cars wouldn’t be allowed to operate unless a human safety operator is inside the vehicle and able to intervene, according to the proposed ordinance.

“If we have to have a steering wheel, it can have a steering wheel and pedals,” Robyn Denholm, the chair of Tesla’s board of directors, told Bloomberg News in an interview Oct. 28.

Eventually the goal is to use Nvidia’s more advanced DRIVE AV platform, which includes a sensor suite of cameras, radar and lidar, to develop Level 4 autonomous vehicle capabilities.

As part of the collaboration, Stellantis will be among the first automakers to deliver at least 5,000 Nvidia-powered robotaxis for Uber’s operations in the U.S. and internationally.

The autonomous trucks will be manufactured at Volvo Trucks North America’s New River Valley production plant in Dublin, Va. The first batch was built there in the final quarter of 2024.
