Ohio aims to lead the nation with the most long-term truck parking spots on state property by adding 1,400 new spaces in 33 locations, Gov. Mike DeWine announced.

Appropriations committee also allots $927 million for Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration operations.

At a Senate Commerce subcommittee hearing, ATA President Chris Spear emphasized the significance of adopting technologies and applications designed to facilitate the flow of freight.

Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine unveiled two pairs of modern rest areas with a total of 40 truck parking spots along U.S. Route 33 near Columbus and on the U.S. 30 east-west corridor near Indiana.

A fiscal 2026 transportation funding bill advanced by the Appropriations Committee on July 17 also would allot $927 million for FMCSA operations.

Sean Duffy's announcement noted 77% of the funds were allocated to roads and bridges “to reinforce the arteries of the American economy” while $35 million went to port improvements.

Policy wins on commercial vehicle emissions have allowed industry leaders to shift their attention to other pressing issues, American Trucking Associations President Chris Spear said.

“Truckers keep America running,” the DOT secretary said. “While the country sleeps, truckers grind through the night to help keep shelves stocked, families fed and businesses humming."

The Arizona Department of Transportation has incorporated real-time truck parking availability status for Interstate 10 rest areas on its state traveler information website.
