Truck component maker Meritor Wabco said it has been selected the exclusive supplier of standard-position, steer-axle service brake chambers for Daimler Trucks North America.

Last week’s announcement by Daimler Trucks North America that it will move production of a line of transmissions and a line of turbochargers from Germany to a plant it runs outside Detroit is just the latest development in a trend that has become known as “onshoring.”

President Obama is scheduled to visit Daimler AG’s Detroit Diesel Corp. plant in Redford Township, Mich., on Monday, and the company plans to announce it will invest more than $100 million at the facility, the Detroit News reported.

Daimler Trucks said it will supply Russian truck maker Kamaz with engines and axles.
