Commercial motor vehicle inspectors in North America conducted 38,117 inspections Aug. 21-27 during Brake Safety Week, placing 13.3% of vehicles out of service for brake-related violations.

A five-day unannounced hazardous materials and dangerous goods inspection special enforcement effort in June netted 1,774 violations in the United States and Canada, the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance reported Oct. 12.

The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance approved a new standard and procedure designed to govern inspections of autonomous commercial motor vehicles.

Commercial vehicle inspectors took 1,290 CMVs, or 14.1% of those inspected, out of service with critical brake-related violations on a special unannounced brake safety day operation.

Law enforcement officers in the U.S., Canada and Mexico stopped 46,058 passenger and commercial motor vehicle drivers engaging in dangerous driving behaviors during the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance’s Operation Safe Driver Week safety initiative.
