AUSTIN, Texas — For the second year in a row, the national shortage of qualified truck drivers is considered the industry’s most pressing concern, according to an annual report prepared by the American Transportation Research Institute.

The cost of operating a truck averaged $1.69 per mile, a 6% increase in 2017 according to a report released Oct. 2 by the American Transportation Research Institute.

Trucking industry representatives now can submit their concerns to the American Transportation Research Institute. The nonprofit research organization launched its 2018 Top Industry Issues Survey on Aug. 21.
