Consumer Sentiment Down Less Than Expected in July

The University of Michigan said Friday its final consumer sentiment index for July was 88.1, which was lower than last month鈥檚 reading but higher than the 86.5 that economists expected, Bloomberg reported.

Inexpensive mortgages helped pushed the sales of new homes to a record pace in June, the Commerce Department said Thursday, while a national real estate trade association reported sales of existing homes down 11.7%, the biggest drop since April 1995.
