Class 8 Sales Edge Higher

Sales of heavy-duty trucks rose 2% in January from a year earlier despite industry predictions that sales would drop off substantially during the new year. The gain came on the heels of a weak December, when truck sales fell 5.4% from a year earlier.

Workers Walk Out of Ontario Daimler Heavy-Duty Truck Plant

About 1,100 workers at a Sterling heavy-duty truck plant in St. Thomas, Ontario, went on strike Thursday night after the company could not reach a new contract with members of the Canadian Auto Workers, Bloomberg reported.

Mineta Slated to Return to Work Week of Feb. 24

Secretary of Transportation Norman Mineta returned to the Department of Transportation Friday afternoon to meet with employees, and was scheduled to return to work the week of Feb. 24, DOT spokesman Ben Langer said on Friday.
