Virginia transportation officials have planned a series of meetings in June to gather public feedback as their study of the Interstate 81 corridor takes shape.

A Virginia lawmaker has proposed a bill calling for the state’s transportation board to study the potential for a truck tolling system along Interstate 81.

Freight transportation, infrastructure issues and jobs will be key considerations for many voters electing new governors on Nov. 7 in New Jersey and Virginia — the only states with gubernatorial contests this year.

The Port of Virginia began its July-to-June fiscal year with another record-breaker.

Although a bill to eliminate the West Virginia Parkways Authority failed to pass, the agency still faces uncertainty beyond 2019, the Parkways general manager said.

Cargo traffic in March at the Port of Virginia was the fourth busiest in its history, and grew 9% compared to a year ago, according to the Virginia Port Authority.
