Utility Trailer launched its new hybrid transport refrigeration technology as part of its partnership with German trailer maker Schmitz Cargobull.

U.S. trailer orders fell 37% below prior-year results in November, with freight market pressures continuing to weigh on activity, ACT Research reported. 

The group of trailer OEMs, which calls itself the American Trailer Manufacturers Coalition, comprises Great Dane, Stoughton Trailers and Wabash.

ACT noted continuing concerns over moderating economic activity, weak for-hire carrier profitability and ambiguous government policy remain as challenges to trailer demand.

U.S. trailer orders reached four consecutive months of year-over-year gains in August, ACT Research reported. Preliminary net data showed an increase of 7% to 9,000 units.

Some products have been tweaked over the years, but the basics of trailer flooring have remained constant, said Mark Glasgow, chief of sales at trailer manufacturer Utility Trailer.

Refrigeration technology for temperature-controlled trailers has expanded beyond conventional diesel-powered refrigeration units to a growing number of greener alternatives.

U.S. trailer orders continued to trend below the previous year in February after a short-lived but strong uptick the previous month, ACT Research reported.

Utility Trailer and Schmitz Cargobull showcased the latest innovations for their reefer units that were developed as part of their ongoing joint venture.

Utility Trailer Manufacturing Co. unveiled plans Sept. 11 for a joint venture with Germany’s Schmitz Cargobull Corp. that will be known as Cargobull North America.
