YRC Worldwide said Monday its third-quarter tonnage was up from a year ago and its revenue per shipment also improved, though it forecast an operating loss for the quarter.

YRC Worldwide Inc. and the Teamsters last week agreed on a third round of financial concessions that the less-than-truckload carrier said would save it $350 million annually.

William Zollars, the chief executive officer who built YRC Worldwide Inc. into a $10 billion freight company and then navigated the company through large losses during the recession, said last week that he will retire when the company’s comprehensive recovery plan is completed.

YRC Worldwide said Friday its ticker symbol has temporarily changed to ”YRCWD,” from “YRCW,” a standard practice in conjunction with its reverse stock split.

YRC Worldwide’s board and the Teamsters union’s leadership have each approved an agreement extending current pay cuts through 2015 and delaying YRC’s resumption of pension contributions until June.

YRC Worldwide said it has reached a tentative agreement with the Teamsters union to address “competitiveness issues, re-entry into multi-employer pension funds and progress toward [the company’s] long-term growth.”

YRC Worldwide plans to ask the Nasdaq stock market for additional time to avoid having its shares delisted, the Kansas City Business Journal reported.

YRC Worldwide’s logistics unit, which the carrier sold to a private equity firm, has been rebranded MIQ Logistics, and the new entity Wednesday named Joey Carnes its chairman and chief executive officer.

YRC Worldwide said Tuesday its second-quarter loss narrowed as it reported positive operating income for the three-month period.
