XPO Logistics slightly reduced its first-quarter loss, excluding one-time costs, to $9.8 million, or 8 cents per share, while earnings slipped 9% to $96.6 million, or 53 cents, as airfreight and ocean forwarding results weakened.

XPO Logistics’ fourth-quarter earnings report last week provided the first real glimpse into its long-term financial performance after the 2015 acquisition spree that quadrupled revenue and saw it scoop up Con-way Inc., its largest asset and a major potential profit center.

XPO Logistics Inc. reported fourth-quarter results that included a loss of $62.8 million, or 58 cents per share, and a glimpse of less-than-truckload performance at the former Con-way Freight unit that was acquired in October.

XPO Logistics, including the former Con-way Freight, filed a six-count civil complaint against R+L Carriers in U.S. District Court in Detroit, alleging that R+L acted illegally in raiding employees from XPO.

XPO Logistics Inc. filed suit against YRC’s Freight unit, claiming that the company poached seven management employees, including two vice presidents, and stole trade secrets around the time that XPO was completing the acquisition of Con-way Inc.

XPO Logistics said it has cut another 190 jobs, primarily at its less-than-truckload unit, to save more than $20 million annually.

A California law firm has asked a state court to certify a class action suit against Pacer Cartage and two other XPO Logistics businesses, claiming that the carriers misclassified drivers as independent contractors in the latest such case in the nation’s largest state.

XPO Logistics Inc. last week began consolidating its latest acquisition, Con-way Inc., and also announced higher profit targets as well as revenue that tripled in the third quarter.
