Used Class 8 trucks in October notched the first monthly year-over-year increase in average price after 17 such declines, ACT Research reported. It expects the gains to continue into next year.

Used Class 8 pricing fell for the 12th consecutive month compared with a year earlier, down 22% for the largest drop in that extended period, ACT Research reported.

Class 8 used truck sales skidded by 15% in February and the average price dropped for the 10th consecutive month, ACT Research reported for the last month before the surge of the coronavirus.

Used Class 8 sales in December were down 11.9% year-over-year compared with December 2018, according to ACT Research’s monthly report.

The price of the average used Class 8 truck sold in August fell year-over-year for the first time in 20 months as inventory piled up, ACT Research reported.

The average price for a used Class 8 truck in October rose 11% year-over-year to $45,378 as buyers pushed sales 9% higher despite inventory levels that remained tight, ACT Research Co. reported.

Sales of used Class 8 trucks in May climbed 19% as first-time buyers continued to enter the market amid a drop in inventory for sale and an upward trend in the average price, while freight rates remained strong, analysts said.
