Beginning in September, the Alliance for Toll Interoperability will be enrolling toll agencies across North America in its new central collection system, a hub that founders said is the first step toward toll-system “interoperability.”

The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission voted Monday to increase its tolls by 12% for cash users and 2% for E-ZPass transponder users, effective in January.

The Ohio Turnpike and Infrastructure Commission has approved a 10-year toll plan that’s expected to increase rates by about 2.7% annually for cars and trucks.

The Texas toll road with the country’s fastest speed limit, 85 mph, has drawn half as many drivers as expected in its first few months, the San Antonio Express-News reported.

The New York State Thruway Authority plans to lay off about 150 toll takers, drivers, mechanics and other workers, as the result of its decision last year to scrap a plan for new tolls on trucks, the  Syracuse (N.Y.) Post-Standard reported.

It appears that the opponents of Virginia’s plan to put tolls on Interstate 95 have won the battle, and we’re glad to hear it.
