President Donald Trump announced plans earlier this month to double tariffs on Indian goods from 25% to 50% over its purchases of Russian oil.

“We are looking, I hope, for an agreement that will put us in a better position than we are right now,” Dominic LeBlanc said Aug. 25 in a French-language radio interview.

Still, President Trump indicated that the agreement for a 15% tariff on South Korean imports would likely stick as is, despite Seoul’s efforts to secure better terms. 

The move by Switzerland’s national postal service follows President Donald Trump’s elimination of a tariff loophole for so-called “de minimis” merchandise.

The two leaders talked about “trade challenges, opportunities, and shared priorities in a new economic and security relationship between Canada and the U.S.,” according to a statement.

The joint statement advances the preliminary deal announced a month ago, by including specific benchmarks for the EU to secure tariff discounts on cars, pharmaceuticals and semiconductors.
