Saia Inc. has signed a deal to partner with TST Overland Express to provide cross-border less-than-truckload service between the United States and Canada, effective May 22.

Two publicly traded less-than-truckload carriers reported higher year-over-year results for the first two months of 2017 in terms of shipments and revenue.

Less-than-truckload carrier Saia Inc. announced plans to expand into the Northeast, with four terminals opening in the beginning of May remaining on track and on time.

The less-than-truckload sector began the earnings season on a sour note after Old Dominion Freight Line Inc. and Saia Inc. posted year-over-year declines in profits and failed to meet the forecasts from industry analysts.

Saia Inc. reported positive results for its less-than-truckload business in October and November, according to a filing to U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission on Dec. 1.

Less-than-truckload company Saia Inc. will expand into the Northeast next year, CEO Rick O’Dell announced Oct. 26.

The less-than-truckload sector began the earnings season on a high note with Saia Inc. reporting profits increased 17% in the third quarter.

Declining tonnage and rising wage bills led regional less-than-truckload carrier Saia Inc. to a third quarter of diminished profitability and revenue.

Saia Inc. reported first-quarter net income increased 47% to $12.6 million, or 49 cents per share, with help from higher rates.
