Amazon.com acquired New York-based startup Fauna Robotics, becoming the latest technology giant to step into the burgeoning consumer humanoid market.

The startup doesn’t currently charge fares, but regulators have opened a public comment period that could pave the way for Zoox to do so.

Jeff Bezos in recent months has met with large asset managers to raise money for the project, including during trips to the Middle East and Singapore.

The Seattle-based company said it started testing the express delivery service late last year and expanding it this month.

Amazon is moving up its annual Prime Day sale to June from July, according to sources, shifting the schedule for an event that’s become a big part of the e-commerce economy.

At launch, Uber riders will have the opportunity to match with a Zoox robotaxi on eligible trips. It’s the first time Zoox has partnered with a third party.

Amazon’s deal is the latest in a series of jumbo bond sales by hyperscalers as they plan to invest hundreds of billions of dollars in AI infrastructure. Investors have so far been eager buyers.

Amazon.com's website and mobile app malfunctioned for some users March 5, with critical features like product listings and checkout options producing error pages. 

Not only are the capital expenditures eating into Amazon’s free cash flow, but market pros are growing impatient about when they’ll pay off in dramatic fashion. 

Walmart, which had been the largest company by revenue for more than a decade, reported sales of $713.2 billion for the 12 months ending Jan. 31. Amazon earlier reported 2025 sales of $717 billion.
