I’ve speculated in the past that fleets would tire of natural gas engines, partic­ularly as legislators or regulators began taxing the alternative fuel on the same basis as diesel.

For years, U.S. producers have counted on Mexico to buy enormous quantities of natural gas from the prolific shale fields in West Texas and elsewhere. The fracking boom has given rise to massive pipeline projects to carry that gas across the border, where energy production has plummeted.

The Coalition for Renewable Natural Gas released a new map and project database that shows there are now at least 76 operational RNG facilities in the United States and Canada.
