President Donald Trump has made numerous cryptic — and sometimes contradictory — remarks about his decision-making process regarding the new central bank chief.

The Labor Department reported that its CPI was up 2.7% in November from a year earlier. Energy prices, driven up by higher fuel oil prices, rose 4.2%, and so-called core inflation was up 2.6%.

“It does look like some more positive signs of underlying inflation slowing,” Citigroup economist Veronica Clark said, while adding that rent costs are showing “some stickiness.” 

The Federal Reserve reduced its key interest rate for the third time in a row Dec. 10 but signaled that it may leave rates unchanged in the coming months.

In addition to sales expectations and hiring intentions, the overall index was boosted by a slight improvement in plans to increase inventories and earnings trends.

Fed officials are widely expected to cut their benchmark interest rate for a third straight time Dec. 10, in a bid to safeguard against worsening labor market conditions.

In their post-meeting statement, Fed policymakers on Oct. 29 repeated their assessment that “job gains have slowed” and said “risks to employment rose in recent months.”

“Starting now, accuracy is getting worse,” Omair Sharif, president of Inflation Insights, said in an Oct. 9 interview, just over a week into the shutdown.

CSCMP’s 2025 State of Logistics Report found that annual expenditures associated with moving freight grew 5.4% year over year to $2.58 trillion in 2024 compared with 2023.

The Commerce Department reported Sept. 26 that its personal consumption expenditures price index was up 2.7% in August from a year earlier.
