India formally joined a U.S.-led initiative to protect supply chains, including on critical minerals, in another sign that both sides are resetting ties after a turbulent year.

The move comes immediately on the heels of a trade deal with the U.S. that slashes punitive tariffs for Indian exports but demands that the country stop importing discounted Russian oil.

The outlook points to the challenges facing incoming Coca-Cola CEO Henrique Braun as the company works to win over shoppers with its widening portfolio of beverages.

The move comes after months of Trump pressing India to cut its reliance on cheap Russian crude. Trump said that India would also start to reduce its import taxes on U.S. goods to zero.

President Trump posted on social media that the new duty would be “effective immediately,” without providing further detail. The administration has yet to outline the scope.

The growth was largely supported by India’s push into markets like China, although there was also a sharp rebound in shipments to its biggest export destination, the U.S.

President Donald Trump signaled Dec. 8 that he could impose fresh tariffs on agricultural products, including Canadian fertilizer and Indian rice.

India-U.S. relations have also soured because of Trump’s assertions he brokered a ceasefire between India and Pakistan during the conflict in May and used trade as a bargaining chip.

The engines will not be exported to the U.S., but it’s unclear which countries they will be sent to, a source told Bloomberg. An announcement is expected as early as this week.

New Delhi may agree to gradually reduce its imports of Russian oil and allow the U.S. to export more non-genetically modified American corn and soymeal, the Mint newspaper reported.
