Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper and Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder, whose states have significant freight corridors, set goals to overhaul the infrastructure in their states to ensure that the goods that bolster their economy can move freely.

The Departments of Transportation of both Colorado and Idaho were honored as top winners at the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials’ annual meeting Sept. 27.

WINDSOR, Colo. — Investing in Colorado's transportation infrastructure, specifically along the Front Range, is necessary to accommodate the high volume of people moving into the area due to the vast economic growth, regional transportation experts say.

In December, Colorado will became the third state with an active road usage charge program after Oregon and California. Unlike those states, which sought to enroll 5,000 vehicles, Colorado’s six-month program will include just 100 vehicles, none of them large trucks.    

The Colorado State Patrol found nearly 100 violations during an operation in the Platteville, Colorado, aimed at identifying truckers and trucking companies that weren’t in compliance with safety rules.
