President Donald Trump signaled Dec. 8 that he could impose fresh tariffs on agricultural products, including Canadian fertilizer and Indian rice.

The group of trailer OEMs, which calls itself the American Trailer Manufacturers Coalition, comprises Great Dane, Stoughton Trailers and Wabash.

Trump’s 50% tariffs on foreign steel “have fundamentally altered the competitive landscape and sharply limited our ability to access the U.S. market,” a spokeswoman said.

Prime Minister Mark Carney’s government will lower the tariff-rate quota level for steel imports from countries with which Canada doesn’t have a trade agreement to 20% from 50%.

Statistics Canada said it will not publish October trade data as was scheduled on Dec. 4. The agency had previously confirmed September numbers would be postponed.

Canada and its 13 provinces and territories agreed to knock down more hurdles to trading internally, as the country tries to reduce its reliance on the U.S. amid a punishing trade war.

Asked by reporters aboard Air Force One whether negotiations between the White House and Carney’s government would resume, Trump said: “No, but I have a very good relationship."

“We have achieved our goal, to make sure that conversation starts with the American people, and with their elected officials, and my goodness, it’s started all right,” Ontario Premier Doug Ford said.
