Reports Show Listings and Checkout Failures During Afternoon Disruption

Amazon.com Inc.’s website and mobile app malfunctioned for some users March 5, with critical features like product listings and checkout options producing error pages.
Downdetector, which tracks user reports of outages, reported a spike in complaints about the world’s largest online retailer at about 2 p.m. New York time.
“We’re sorry that some customers may be experiencing issues while shopping,” Jennie Bryant, an Amazon spokesperson, said in an emailed statement. “We appreciate customers’ patience as we work to resolve the issue.”
Amazon Web Services, the company’s cloud-computing unit, has been working this week to restore services at data centers in the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain that wereby drone strikes, but on March 5 reported no new issues likely to cause problems for Amazon’s retail services in North America, according to the AWS service health. Bryant said AWS was functioning normally.
