Waymo Pulls Out of CES Over Virus Concerns

Waymo, the autonomous vehicle unit of Alphabet Inc., is pulling from in-person events at CES, joining a growing list of companies avoiding the major technology conference scheduled for next month.

In a blog post Dec. 23, Waymo cited 鈥渜uickly rising COVID-19 infection rates鈥 but said its executives would participate in virtual events.

Started as a trade show for gadgets,听CES has featured more automakers and self-driving demonstrations in recent years.

Several companies also have canceled attendance this week, including Lenovo Group Ltd., one of the largest exhibitors. On Dec. 22, the organization behind CES said it was proceeding with the event.
