A new job listing in Tesla’s Autopilot operations seeks a driver for a prototype vehicle that would gather data for as much as eight hours a day.

Dallas will become the second major Texas city with Waymo’s robotaxis, following the company’s move into Austin earlier this year as part of a partnership with Uber.

The driverless shuttles will initially be deployed in partnership with airports and cities, dovetailing with the company’s recent revival of pooled rides at U.S. airports.

Waymo, through its partnership with Uber, is more than doubling its service territory in Austin as the driverless taxi firm looks to fend off competition from Tesla.

Waymo has begun testing its driverless rideshare service in New York City, but rides are not available to the general public. 

African ride-hailing startup Moove is close to raising $1.2 billion in a debt round that will help it finance a rollout of an autonomous-driving fleet with Waymo and expand in the U.S.

Kalanick would run Pony if the deal is completed while continuing to lead his current company, CloudKitchens, the report cited the people as saying. Financial details were not known.

Waymo’s robotaxis will begin carrying passengers through parts of Atlanta on June 24 in an expansion of a partnership with Uber that began earlier this year in Austin, Texas.

Waymo has applied for a permit to test its robotaxis in New York City, despite an absence of local regulations supporting commercially operated autonomous vehicles.
