Trucking Industry Honors Veterans During âWreaths Across America Dayâ

A convoy of trucks delivered 34 truckloads of wreaths on Saturday to Arlington National Cemetery, where they were placed by gravesides by thousands of volunteers during âWreaths Across America Day.â
The âEscort to Arlingtonâ convoy drove from Harrington, Maine, where the wreaths were donated, and made stops at veteransâ cemeteries, schools and churches.
âWe just drove the truck,â said Marcena Phillips, who drove with husband, Carl Phillips. âThese guys here are the real heroes.â
About 110,000 wreaths were delivered to Arlington â 20,000 more than last year â during the event organized by the Truckload Carriers Association.
âAll of us feel it is our honor and privilege to be able to show our respect by hauling the wreaths for those who made the ultimate sacrifice for their country,â said TCA President Chris Burruss.
Schneider National Inc. delivered 5,000 wreaths to Arlington in its military themed truck, the Ride of Pride and delivered 10,000 wreaths to Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, Texas.
