Mack Trucks pulled back the curtain March 2 on a revamp of its Class 8 Granite tractor as part of an overhaul of the Volvo Group division’s vocational lineup.

Greensboro, N.C.-based Mack’s overhaul of its vocational portfolio also saw the debut at Las Vegas Motor Speedway of the Keystone Class 8 tractor, which will replace the Pinnacle model by the end of 2026.

Production of the latest iteration of the Granite will begin in January 2027 at Mack’s Lehigh Valley Operations manufacturing plant in Macungie, Pa.

Mack’s order book for the Granite will open in the second half of 2026.

The Granite gets an all-new cab, greater fuel efficiency, extra safety features and a more comfortable ride, according to Mack.

Customers will be able to choose from day cab and 44-inch sleeper configurations in both axle-forward and axle-back positions, with multiple front and rear axle ratings for specific customer requirements.

Available axle configurations comprise 4x2, 6x4, 8x4 with pusher axle, 8x6, 10x4 with pusher axle and 10x4 with pusher and tag axle.

Powertrain options start with Mack’s MP13 and Cummins X10 engines. The former has up to 540 horsepower and 1,950 pound-feet of torque. A powertrain with the MP13 will offer 3% greater fuel efficiency compared with its predecessor, according to Mack. The latter engine option is available in six power profiles.

When it comes to transmissions, an updated mDRIVE automated manual transmission is available in 12-, 13- and 14-speed configurations. Mack noted that the 13-speed option features a creeper gear to aid starts on steep grades and with heavy loads, while the 14-speed option features a 32:1 ultra-low-speed reduction gear. Customers can also choose an Allison RDS Series automatic transmission.

The Granite is offered in graphite and bright trim packages, with features including LED headlights, three-piece bumper options and an available sun visor. An optional hatch provides fluid access for snowplow applications.

Mack redesigned the cab, with upgrades including a three-way adjustable steering column; a revamped door panel design incorporating heating, ventilation and air conditioning ducting that delivers heating and cooling at the driver’s shoulder; and a new body builder tower positioned between the seats. The interior is available in three trim levels.

“Everything in this cab was designed around the driver,” said Vince Lokers, specialist chief designer. “We focused on creating a driver-centric, commanding, ergonomic layout with wrap-around controls and high visibility. Features like our new steering column-mounted shifter, flat-bottom steering wheel and electric brakes were all positioned in their best ergonomic position based on direct driver feedback.”

The overhaul of the Granite and launch of the Keystone ahead of the ConExpo-Con/Agg 2026 conference are the latest phase of a lineup overhaul intended to support its parent company’s North American heavy-duty truck market share ambitions.

Volvo Group is aiming for a 25% heavy-duty truck market share by 2030 on the back of the introduction of the Las Vegas launches plus 2025’s unveiling of the longhaul, on-highway Pioneer models and Anthem repositioning.

Volvo Trucks North America’s VNL and VNR on-highway models also received major revamps as part of the strategic initiative.

In 2025, Mack’s North American heavy-duty truck market share rose to 8% from 6% on the back of an improved supply chain and relatively good vocational segment demand, Volvo Group said when releasing its fourth-quarter 2025 earnings Jan. 28.

Still, Mack orders in North America totaled 5,615 trucks in Q4, a 30% slump year over year from 7,969 trucks despite the vocational market strength and new on-highway tractors as the freight sector remained in the doldrums. Mack’s North American orders in 2025 fell 8% to 20,516 trucks from 22,407 a year earlier.
