March U.S. Durables Orders Show Mixed Picture

In a hopeful but mixed sign for the manufacturing economy -- a huge customer base for the trucking industry –- the U.S. Commerce Department said Wednesday that overall new orders for durable goods from U.S. factories rose 3% in March.

Wabash Reports Big 1Q Loss

Trailer maker Wabash National reported an adjusted loss of $10.4 million, or 45 cents per share for the first quarter, compared with a gain of $9.1 million, or 38 cents a share, for the same quarter of 2000.
