Economy Loses 93,000 Jobs in August

The U.S. economy lost a total of 93,000 jobs in August as the manufacturing sector shed another 44,000 positions, but the unemployment rate dipped to 6.1% as more discouraged workers dropped out of the labor force, the Labor Department reported Friday.

New Grand Champion Wins in Straight Truck

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Mark Dietsche of Keizer, Ore., said he drove more than 100 miles each weekend to practice with a straight truck for the National Truck Driving Championships, where he became the first driver for FedEx Freight to win as grand champion.

Factory Orders Rise for Third Straight Month in July

Orders placed with U.S. factories rose 1.6% in July, led by more bookings for motor vehicles, computers and machinery, the Commerce Department reported Thursday.
