BOCA RATON, Fla. — PeopleNet unveiled here the first display upgrade for its mobile communication system since 2007, one intended for use outside a truck.

The changes the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration is making to its CSA safety-monitoring system will lead to increased enforcement in the two areas that correlate least with future crash risk, an examination of the revisions has found.

Twenty-five percent of the nation’s 603,000 bridges are structurally deficient in some way, but the federal government lacks the analytic and procedural tools to determine what impact federal bridge money would have in addressing the problem, a Government Accountability Office report said.

Transportation software firm Xata Corp. said it lost $402,000, or 23 cents per share, in its fiscal second quarter, compared with a profit of $91,000, or 5 cents, a year ago.

PRINCETON, N.J. — New federal safety regulations soon will drive a wave of purchases by U.S. trucking companies that have not yet adopted electronic onboard recorders and mobile communication systems that closely monitor driver performance, a technology vendor here said.
