The transportation industry is awash with mandates, legislation and limits imposed by lawmakers and regulators.

The best way I know to add perspective to the Central States Pension Fund’s shortfall is to look as far back as the 1980s, when every time the union got a raise, management got a “compression raise” in addition to performance and cost-of-living adjustment, or COLA, raises.

I agree there is no consensus on how to raise the money needed — probably $1.5 trillion to $2 trillion over 10 years — to fund rebuilding and enhancing our bridges and roads. It’s very clear that increasing fuel taxes won’t pass political muster.

There is so much written about the benefits of onboard technology, such as the Opinion piece “Maximizing Benefits of Onboard Technology”, that the articles sound like sales pitches for onboard technology manufacturers.

This is in response to your article “Missouri to Solicit Innovative Means of Upgrading I-70” (7-6, ttnews.com).

I take exception to your methodology in ranking logistics companies. I grant that it is tough to compare apples to oranges to bananas, which is what is required to compare dedicated fleet providers to warehouse and distribution center providers to managed transportation providers, brokers and air and ocean freight forwarders.

The analyst in the Bloomberg News story, “Driverless Vehicles May Cut US Auto Sales by 40%, Analyst Says”, evidently assumed that autonomous vehicles would have to travel farther to account for deadhead miles to get to and from each person being served.
