Airlines across the U.S. have canceled flights as the longest government shutdown in history snarls up air travel and forces thousands of passengers to change their travel plans.

The casualties are believed to include Captain Richard Wartenberg, First Officer Lee Truitt and International Relief Officer Captain Dana Diamond, UPS said in a statement.
