The Supreme Court struck down President Donald Trump's far-reaching global tariffs on Feb. 20, handing him a significant loss on an issue crucial to his economic agenda.

The rollback plans were reported earlier by the Financial Times. Aluminum and other metals fell following the report, while shares of U.S. steelmakers and aluminum producers sank.

“The agreement will provide U.S. and Bangladeshi exporters unprecedented access to each other’s respective markets,” the White House said in a statement.

Transportation companies such as C.H. Robinson and XPO have already added services and warehouse space to support customers in Mexico that are shipping or are planning to ship to the U.S.

Under the terms, which the White House was poised to announce Jan. 15, duties on Taiwanese shipments would fall from the previous 20% rate — putting them on par with Japan and South Korea.

The bill would favor a market-based approach by setting up the independent body charged with building a stockpile of critical minerals, stabilizing prices and encouraging production.

President Trump has been under pressure to respond after China constrained access to rare earths crucial to advanced technologies during a trade spat last year.

It’s unclear which U.S. officials will participate in the meetings and whether Trump plans to become personally involved. Whether a deal will be finalized also remains uncertain. 

December's deficit was $145 billion, per Treasury Department data. For the first three months of the 2026 fiscal year beginning Oct. 1, the shortfall came in at $602 billion.

President Trump posted on social media that the new duty would be “effective immediately,” without providing further detail. The administration has yet to outline the scope.
