Tesla was allowed to begin offering autonomous rideshare service in Arizona, clearing the way for its nascent robotaxi business to expand to a new state.

Siddhant Awasthi's decision follows a string of executive exits at Tesla, which has grappled with lukewarm consumer demand and the loss of U.S. incentives while pursuing new business lines.

NHTSA opened the defect investigation Sept. 15, citing nine complaints submitted as far back as July 2023. Several parents said they were unable to open the Tesla doors to retrieve a child.

NHTSA disclosed in September that it’s investigating whether some Tesla doors are defective, citing incidents in which exterior handles stopped working and trapped  occupants inside.

The donation has raised concerns from government oversight experts about private donors’ influence on public departments and the boost to the Tesla brand.

The latest recall of 6,197 Cybertrucks is due to a potential issue with the installation of an off-road light bar accessory that could detach and increase the risk of a collision.

“If we have to have a steering wheel, it can have a steering wheel and pedals,” Robyn Denholm, the chair of Tesla’s board of directors, told Bloomberg News in an interview Oct. 28.

For the past 18 months, Tesla said manufacturing would start by the end of 2025 and ramp up to capacity through 2026. The firm has a history of missing deadlines, including with the Semi.

Tesla's Q3 profit fell short of Wall Street’s expectations despite record EV sales, a sign of the pressure automakers are facing from shifting federal policies and rising costs.

The problem stems from a faulty battery pack connection part, which can lead to loss of propulsion without warning, Tesla said in documents posted to NHTSA’s website.
