The recent discovery of explosives in overseas packages is triggering a fresh look at cargo scrutiny measures that could involve truckers and airlines, government officials and experts said.

Only about 20% of the 9 billion pounds of air cargo that comes to the United States from overseas each year is physically checked for bombs, USA Today reported Tuesday.

President Obama said Friday that federal authorities had uncovered a “credible terrorist threat” against the United States following the overseas discovery of U.S.-bound packages containing explosives aboard cargo jets, the Associated Press reported.
