New York City Mayor Mike Bloomberg signed into law a measure that mandates the use of biodiesel in all city-owned vehicles.

U.S. biodiesel production dropped to 68 million gallons in February, from 77.2 million gallons a year ago, the U.S. Energy Information Administration reported Monday.

The National Biodiesel Board announced a goal for biodiesel to make up 10% of the on-road diesel market by 2022.

The amount of biodiesel products required to be included in diesel fuel markets was increased to 1.28 billion gallons in 2013 from the current 1 billion gallons, the Environmental Protection Agency said.

Biodiesel producers said they do not agree with calls for the federal government to waive ethanol and other renewable fuel production mandates because of the drought reducing the corn crop in the Midwest.

The U.S. biodiesel industry produced more than 1 billion gallons of fuel in 2011, the National Biodiesel Board said.

Diesel refineries must produce 1 billion gallons of biodiesel in 2012, a 25% increase from last year, the Environmental Protection Agency said last month, but the agency decided to delay its planned 2013 mandate.

The Canadian government formally published a regulation July 20 mandating a 2% biodiesel blend in most provinces.

Hino Trucks USA, Novi, Mich., said on July 12 its cabover trucks in Classes 4-5 and conventional trucks in Classes 6-7 have been approved to use up to B20 biodiesel.
