For-hire and private fleets said last week they were preparing to celebrate National Truck Driver Appreciation Week with an array of activities to fete their drivers.

WASHINGTON — Visitors can get their kicks walking on an actual piece of the famous Route 66 and get a feel for how the development of the interstate highway system and the trucking industry changed American life here at the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of American History exhibit, “America on the Move.”
