While Security Is Important, Fleets Also Worry About Costs
n spite of the abundance of high-tech ideas about how to improve security some fleet managers are showing a preference for simple theft-deterrent hardware, stepped-up training and better emergency response procedures to address threats.
For security products to win a place in trucking, industry officials said, the benefits must be commensurate with the cost.
鈥淭here鈥檚 very little room to make a massive investment in new security technologies,鈥 said Daniel Murray, director of research for the American Transportation Research Institute, an affiliate of American Trucking Associations that is helping federal officials eval-uate the costs and benefits of new transportation security products.
