Wabco Holdings Inc. announced it will provide its advanced emergency braking system to Altec Inc. for use on medium-duty trucks Altec equips for the electric utility, telecommunications, tree care, lights and signs, and contractor markets.

Wabco鈥檚 OnGuardActive, which includes advanced emergency braking, is a radar-based active safety system that offers collision mitigation and adaptive cruise control.

鈥淎ctive braking, which is central to OnGuardActive, is one of the core competencies of vehicle dynamic control,鈥 Jon Morrison, Wabco president of the Americas, said in a release. 鈥淏ringing active braking to the medium-duty truck market is another vital step in our ongoing strategy to enable the commercial vehicle industry鈥檚 vision of autonomous driving.鈥

Altec is among the first truck equipment manufacturers to offer medium-duty vocational trucks equipped with OnGuardActive in the United States, according to Wabco, whose North American operations are based in Auburn Hills, Mich.

The announcement comes as Wabco is set to become part of ZF Friedrichshafen AG.

In March, ZF, a global supplier of mobility systems for commercial vehicles, passenger cars and industrial technology, announced that it entered into a definitive agreement to acquire commercial vehicle supplier Wabco for $7.1 billion, or $136.50 per share.

In June, Wabco鈥檚 shareholders approved the purchase. ZF and Wabco continue to expect to close the transaction early next year. Both companies are based in Europe. 鈥 Transport Topics
