U.S. Xpress Enterprises Inc. announced that Chief Financial Officer Ray Harlin will retire Dec. 31 and that Eric Fuller has been��appointed president and chief operating officer, effective immediately.

The announcement by U.S. Xpress, based in Chattanooga, Tennessee, also said that Eric Peterson is being��appointed Harlin's successor as chief financial officer. Harlin, who has nearly 20 years' service will be a consultant after his retirement.

“Ray has been an integral part of our company and key member of the executive management team since 1997,” CEO and co-founder Max Fuller said. "Ray joined U.S. Xpress as chief financial officer when the company was running a quarter of the trucks we run today.”

Eric Fuller’s promotion adds president to his previous title of COO, which he held for the past several years. He is Max Fuller's oldest son.

Peterson is moving up from senior vice president of accounting and finance.

“Eric is a very strong and experienced executive who has successfully led several strategic initiatives,” Max Fuller said.

He added, "When Pat Quinn and I founded this company, we envisioned our family members playing an integral part in the growth of the company,” which ranks No. 18 on the Transport Topics Top 100 list of the largest U.S. and Canadian for-hire carriers. “This is an ever-changing industry, and it has always been our business strategy to grow and develop with the times.”

Top leadership at U.S. Xpress also includes Lisa Pate, chief administrative officer and Pat Quinn’s daughter.
