Trottenberg Leaves DOT for NYC Post
Polly Trottenberg, undersecretary for policy at the U.S. Department of Transportation, will leave that post to become New York City鈥檚 transportation听 commissioner under new Mayor Bill de Blasio.
Trottenberg has been the third-ranking official at DOT since January 2013. Deputy Secretary John Porcari, the No. 2 man behind Secretary Anthony Foxx, left Dec. 31.
De Blasio succeeded Michael Bloomberg as mayor on Jan. 1, and the Democrat鈥檚 transition office website announced the Trottenberg appointment Dec. 31.
鈥淔rom improving our roads, bridges and waterways to better serve our citizens and businesses, to connecting New Yorkers to jobs and opportunities through improved high-speed bus service, to expanding biking across the five boroughs, we can have a transportation system that is safe, efficient and accessible to all,鈥 Trottenberg said in the announcement statement.
Prior to becoming undersecretary, Trottenberg was executive director of Building America鈥檚 Future, an organization created by former Pennsylvania Gov. Edward Rendell, former California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and Bloomberg to promote infrastructure investment.
Trottenberg鈥檚 New York connections include working for two of the state鈥檚 U.S. senators, Charles Schumer from 1999 to 2005 and Daniel Patrick Moynihan from 1996 to 1998. She has also worked for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.
