TMC Studies Ways to Curb Corrosion From Road Treatments
INCINNATI — The Technology and Maintenance Council is studying what can be done to decrease corrosion on trucks and trailers caused by ice-clearing and dust-settling chemicals on highways.
“It’s a huge problem that encompasses all areas of metal,” said Duke Drinkard, vice president of maintenance for Southeastern Freight Lines, during the first day of TMC’s meeting here Sept. 8-11.Jerry Thrift, group manager of maintenance services for Ryder System and head of TMC’s study group reviewing corrosion, said the group would develop a position on how “to address corrosion on all future vehicles.”
