The Truckload Carriers Association would see its annual meeting and safety council merged with those of American Trucking Associations under a draft integration plan released last week.
The proposal describing the merging of TCA into the larger group also suggests creating a new organization to conduct training and certification programs.
鈥淭his path surely leads toward a more unified trucking industry,鈥 TCA Chairman Gary Baumhover said in a Jan. 19 letter to organization鈥檚 board of directors.
The letter is the first in what Baumhover said would be a series of updates on negotiations with ATA on integration. TCA鈥檚 900 members are scheduled to vote March 22 on whether to integrate with ATA. TCA鈥檚 11 officers voted in December to endorse strengthening the group鈥檚 relationship with ATA. The group鈥檚 75-member executive committee is expected to endorse integration at a Feb. 5 meeting.
