Robin Hutcheson, President Joe Biden’s nominee to lead the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, was easily confirmed by the U.S. Senate on Sept. 22.

The nominee, currently managing the agency in an acting capacity, was confirmed by a unanimous consent vote. Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.), a member of the Commerce Committee on freight policy, announced her confirmation on the floor of the chamber.

Hutcheson had gained approval by the Commerce Committee in June. During a hearing prior to her confirmation, she told senators if confirmed her objective would be to help realize safety initiatives, assist with alleviating supply chain bottlenecks and explore ways to facilitate technological advancements in the trucking industry.

Hutcheson also emphasized the contributions of truck drivers.

“Now, more than ever, Americans are acutely tuned in to how our goods get to our homes — from the flour for the bread we eat, the clothes we wear, the bed we sleep in — we all have a better understanding that it probably came on a truck,” she said.

American Trucking Associations applauded Hutcheson’s confirmation.

“I want to congratulate Robin on her confirmation to this important role,” said ATA President��Chris Spear. “In her time as acting administrator, Robin has been a true partner with our industry — working to confront a number of issues facing trucking.

“Whether it is addressing safety concerns, ongoing supply chain issues or workforce development,” Spear continued, “she has been open to engaging with our industry and we look forward to continuing our ongoing, candid dialogue about these challenges and to engaging with her and her agency to implement solutions that uphold safety and improve efficiency in trucking and across the supply chain.”
