Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-N.Y.) has urged Congress to tighten U.S. rail-safety rules, citing CSX Corp. derailments and other accidents in her state since December, Bloomberg reported.

Clinton made her remarks at a Senate transportation subcommittee hearing on rail safety.

Both the House and Senate are considering legislation that would give the Federal Railroad Administration more money for inspections and other safety measures, Bloomberg said.

Spurred by Clinton’s requests, FRA conducted a safety review this year of operations at CSX, the third-largest U.S. freight railroad and largest Eastern operator. CSX accidents since December include two New York derailments.

Clinton also asked FRA to expand its inquiry to all railroads in New York, Bloomberg reported.
