NEW ORLEANS — When it comes to commenting on proposed revisions to the hours-of-service regulations, the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance will stick to what it knows best — enforcement issues.

CVSA’s executive committee voted Aug. 9 to limit the organization’s comments on the controversial rule making to four key areas involving enforcement of the proposed reforms.

In doing so, the committee accepted the recommendation of its Driver Traffic Enforcement Committee, which met in Vernon, Conn., in June, to discuss what stance the organization should take.

“I don’t think the alliance is served by commenting on everything proposed in the rulemaking,” CVSA Executive Director Stephen Campbell said after the executive committee’s vote. “There are issues on the enforcement side of the hours proposal that have to be examined.”
