Key Takeaways:
- SAF-Holland introduced BrakeSight on March 15 to give fleets real-time brake pad and rotor wear data.
- The system aims to cut downtime and maintenance costs by enabling proactive brake service and extending rotor life.
- SAF-Holland also announced SmartSTO and the UltraLite40 slider, both set for Q4 2026 availability.
NASHVILLE, Tenn. — SAF-Holland introduced a real-time brake pad wear monitor, BrakeSight, on March 15 designed to trim fleets’ maintenance guesswork and boost uptime.
Unveiled at ’ Technology & Maintenance Council Annual Meeting and Transportation Technology Exhibition, BrakeSight is intended to offer brake pad and rotor wear insights for maintenance managers.
BrakeSight can help carriers proactively service brakes at the right time, extending rotor life, avoiding unnecessary repairs and reducing overall maintenance costs.
SAF-Holland argues that otherwise, fleets are at the mercy of reacting to wear after damage occurs, increasing the likelihood of downtime that has a higher probability of being more expensive.
BrakeSight is an optional feature for Haldex ModulT air disc brakes that integrates a sensor directly into the brake caliper within the brake adjustment system. The sensor connects to a frame-mounted electronic control unit.
The system monitors the remaining pad and rotor life at each wheel end. It has an operating temperature range from minus 40 degrees Celsius to 125 degrees Celsius. Sensor warranty is three years or 350,000 miles.

SAF-Holland said the product can be applied to both tractor and trailer air disc brakes and is compatible with all telematics products.
Also at TMC, SAF-Holland unveiled the Holland SmartSTO, a tool for uncoupling air-release fifth wheels and stowing tractor-trailer connection lines, and the UltraLite40 slider for suspension and axle systems.
SmartSTO eliminates the risk of manually pulling the fifth wheel release by relocating the air release control outside the cab. As a result, drivers obtain clear visual and audible confirmation of disengagement. The product also prevents uncoupling until gladhands and electrical lines are fully stowed. It will be available from the fourth quarter of 2026.
The UltraLite40 Slider for the ULX40 mechanical sliding suspension and axle system is intended to extend trailer life and maximize payload efficiency without hiking the cost. It is designed for on-highway van and refrigerated trailers and also will be launched in Q4.
